‘Show me the way to Amarillo…’

… a dog in the Greyhound Derby, run in June.

I’ve bet it early on with Corals at 25/1 e.w. ( ¼ the odds if in the first 4 places in the final) and I have bet it for a couple of pounds e.w. at 16/1 today with Totesport. Its name is Amarillo Slim and it runs in trap 5 or 6.

You will be wondering why I think it is a good bet? Well I used my calculator, as I explained in my dog blog article, to work out the metres/sec and as the figures came up as 59/72, listed as a cracking time; I knew that this was a fast dog.

It will be hard to beat the favourites Westmead Hawk and Fear Me but I think Amarillo Slim could be a sporting each way chance in an outside trap, considering that most of the winners of their heats were in inside traps and could get in each others way in the final. If Amarillo reaches the final and gets a wide draw it could just do it!

I have not done too bad on the horses recently having a 28/1 winner called Pleasing at Leicester races a couple of weeks ago and then a 14/1 winner named Mutamared. Both wins achieved by reading the ‘handicap’ as outlined by Mark Cotton who wrote the best racing book I ever read called : Value Betting.

In a future blog I would like to touch on reading the handicap and value betting. We will see…

In the meantime wish me luck with Amarillo Slim but whatever happens it looks like a good dog for the future.

Come racing!!
